Among universities of science and engineering nationwide, North China University of Technology (NCUT) established the first Law program, and was also the first to confer a bachelor’s degree in law, ratified by the former State Education Committee. In 1989, NCUT was approved to grant a master’s degree in economic law, which was also a groundbreaking advancement among China’s universities of science and engineering. In 2007, NCUT’s Department of Law achieved the right to grant the Juris Master degree, and in 2011, was approved to bestow the master’s degree in law within the first-level discipline, which is a key discipline in Beijing now. Since 2015, again standing as a trail blazer, NCUT’s Department of Law expanded their law disciplines, accepting students into an undergraduate program for intellectual property. Over the last five years, the rate of students’ successful acceptance into graduate school has reached 35 percent. The Department of Law has formulated academic teams characterized by distinct disciplines such as jurisprudence, constitutional law, administrative law, criminal law, civil and commercial law, economic law and international law to better prepare students with a comprehensive education.
